Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is located in the hinterland of the Chengdu Plain. Known as the “Land of Abundance”, it is a megacity that combines a thousand-year historical heritage with modern vitality.
As a national historical and cultural city, Chengdu has kept its name and location unchanged for over 3,000 years. It houses the Dujiangyan Irrigation System (a World Cultural Heritage site) — a millennium-old water conservancy project built by Li Bing and his son, which still nourishes the plain today; the Wuhou Shrine, dedicated to the monarch and minister of the Three Kingdoms period, carrying the spirit of the Three Kingdoms culture; and the Du Fu Thatched Cottage, the former residence of Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu, where many eternal literary masterpieces were created.
Famous for its “slow life”, Chengdu has tea houses all over the streets. Covered-bowl tea and casual chats are the local people’s go-to for relaxation. As a “World City of Gastronomy”, its spicy hot pot, chewy dandan noodles, and sweet sandapao (a traditional snack) fully showcase Sichuan flavor.
Today, Chengdu is also an economic, technological, and transportation hub in western China. With two airports (Tianfu and Shuangliu) boasting strong connectivity, it has developed rapidly in fields like the digital economy and aerospace. Business districts such as Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li lead trends, while Kuanzhai Alleys and Jinli integrate old Chengdu culture with modern commerce, fully demonstrating “an old city with new vitality”.
